Lead the design of Quillpay's next-generation payments ledger, moving billions of pounds safely each year.
About the role
Payments is the heart of Quillpay. As a Staff Engineer you'll set technical direction for three squads, own the ledger architecture, and make sure every penny is accounted for. We work two days a week from our Shoreditch office.
What you'll do
- Own the architecture of our double-entry payments ledger
- Lead cross-team technical design reviews and set engineering standards
- Improve reliability, idempotency, and reconciliation across services
- Work with risk and compliance on scheme and regulatory requirements
- Grow senior engineers through mentoring and clear feedback
What we're looking for
- 8+ years of backend engineering, with significant time in payments or fintech
- Expert knowledge of Go, Java, or Kotlin and relational databases
- Experience designing high-availability distributed systems
- Strong written communication and decision-making skills
