CSV is plain text, so formatting and data types matter. Use these quick tips to avoid surprises after you import your CSV into another tool.
Pick the right sheet
Workbooks can contain multiple tabs. Convert the exact sheet you plan to import to avoid extra headers or hidden data.
Preserve leading zeros
Values like ZIP codes or IDs can lose leading zeros when treated as numbers. Format those columns as Text in Excel before converting.
Standardize dates
Choose one date format (like YYYY-MM-DD) before exporting, especially if your CSV will be imported into a database or form builder.
Watch delimiters
Some regions use commas inside numbers or require semicolons for CSV. If your import looks misaligned, try exporting with a different delimiter.
